![Recently I went down a rabbit hole learning about all the Gerry Anderson Supermarionation shows (Thunderbirds Are Go, Fireball XL-5, Captain Scarlet, etc). Lots of behind the scene documentaries and interviews and whatnot. I am fascinated by and love and appreciate it all! It’s all so amazingly well done, especially on their shoestring budget and the technical limitations of the time.
But then I realized, I never actually watched any of these shows and I have little to no desire to even do so. Is that weird?
It’s like - I have loved Star Wars basically my entire life (ANH came out when I was 6), but I rarely watch the actual movies. As a kid my favorite Star Wars was “The Making of...” shows they’d occasionally air on TV. I couldn’t, and still can’t, get enough of seeing how it was all made.
My Star Wars model maker friend ,Jason, said to me once “I sometimes forget there are movies associated with all cool these props and models” [paraphrased]
It’s also like this McDonald’s stuff I’m working on. I never went to McDonald’s as a kid, and only rarely as an adult. I don’t really like McDonald’s but I love the concept of McDonaldland.
Are anyone else of you like this? Like you obsess over the idea of an IP or whatever, but don’t actually care for the thing it’s from?](https://scontent-den2-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.82787-15/622562800_18556377160016483_3567866159117355461_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_tt6&_nc_cat=106&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=18de74&efg=eyJlZmdfdGFnIjoiRkVFRC5iZXN0X2ltYWdlX3VybGdlbi5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=WFdbtVVynFoQ7kNvwG_cnNE&_nc_oc=AdmEhGwIBU10R6SJjpETj8SgOM5Zmw4oGqlig-IRFonXxELTTt0YEUE2_m5hxlr75wk&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-den2-1.cdninstagram.com&edm=ANo9K5cEAAAA&_nc_gid=mHxkna7vv9NuV9Xsl2INtQ&oh=00_AfrS2aq_o-3hxPS9vKgNdDbu8kxuNax5GTyAO9HeBZ8nlg&oe=6980A99B)
